I had a name I was born in a field You don’t hear much from me But I’m waiting in the grass I am short and I’m long I get picked last Somebody taught me It’ll be over soon Really make it all last And the wind keeps blowing by It’s so old and so new Is there only one sky? Look at the stars Does it make you feel big? Wanna wonder with you What makes life so huge It’s a balancing act and I wonder Are we doin’ it right? I broke the tether And I told myself I Could fix it anyday But the scale goes up and down And I’m teetering by Losing pound by pound So look at the stars Does it make you feel big? Wanna wonder with you What makes life so huge It’s a balancing act and I wonder Are we doin’ it right? It’s the only thing that Can keep me in line You and that bright sky It’s a balancing act and I wonder Are we doin’ it right?

The Weather 04:29
See you when the sky is pink In a year or two or maybe an hour The sun’s trying hard to rise And I’m wilting like a flower My soul is hovering in front of my face I tense and twist with the land You say the roads are paved with gold But I think they just sprayed ‘em with sand We gotta say something Nothin’ ain’t much better If we gotta say something “What’s wrong with the weather?” I’m not going out there no more It’s just you and me these walls Baby don’t you say “I’m getting free” Cuz I’ll pull you down to a crawl And we’ll while the hours with sweet nothings In a haze of liquor and fear Cuz’ if we ain’t getting out of here We’ll die saying “Winter is here” We gotta say something Nothin’ ain’t much better If we gotta say something “What’s wrong with the weather?”

No noise in the sky No fuel to fry It’s quiet on my street For once I can hear my feet Did we rinse it away? All the riots and plays I’m too scared to ask For everything to come back I’m keepin’ clean Don’t touch me I’m all I need Cuz I know where I been No fog in the air No more grease in my hair Nothin’s bogging me down Except my worry for my town I’m keepin’ clean Don’t touch me I’m all I need Cuz I know where I been It comes from my love I know the skies opened up To show the kindness of strangers So I’m keepin’ clean Cuz I know where I been So I’m taking time Cuz my presence is a crime I’m all I need Cuz I know where I been So I’m keepin’ clean I’m keepin’ clean

Another plan warps in time ‘til I don’t even recognize Where it began - I was so sure that I was seeing through clear eyes We took a walk and talked about the people that had passed us by Like a day of rain, a day of sun, a day of anything They pass us by Tomorrow brings a new day but it breaks my heart to this day I’ll tell you everything that you need to know when I know I hope you stay I knew a girl, she trusted everyone like they were Jesus Christ She took a fall and landed among liars and users She remembered all their names, she remembered everything She never thought, she’d wipe ‘em clean But they passed her by Tomorrow brings a new day but it breaks my heart to this day I’ll tell you everything that you need to know when I know So I hope you stay Maybe when we’re older we can tell who loved us by the ones who stand beside us still Tomorrow brings a new day but it breaks my heart to this day I’ll tell you everything that you need to know when I know Tomorrow brings a new day but it breaks my heart to this day I’ll tell you everything that you need to know when I know I hope you stay

I been thinking of all the different kinds of love Of all the forsaken who never find what they look for But we’ve been around longer than we ever knew I am yours, I am your ugly duckling Once I saw us swimming in the pool of time We’ve been around We got stirred up with all these different kinds of souls Always facing up but never knowing which way to go But we’ve been around longer than we ever knew I am yours, I am your ugly duckling [Instrumental] We’ve been around longer than we ever knew I am yours, I am your ugly duckling When I’m with you I grow into something I never knew When time runs out my love, we’ll never have to say goodbye Cuz once I saw us swimming and kicking in the pool of time We’ve been around Hmm mmm mmm

about

'Balancing Act' was recorded in 2020 entirely in our basement and in Justin's home studio during some of the heaviest lock down times. Everything was done remotely from one another. I'd send him a demo, and we'd discuss influences like Sharon Van Etten and Father John Misty or what have you. Then Danny and I would send Justin some keys, vocal and drum stems, and he and Mario would take over from there.

It was pretty magical to get the title track back because we knew we could build on this aesthetic and that we had a system that worked. Even when everything else music related in my life had seemed to grind to a halt due to the pandemic.

'Balancing Act' is about digesting the big questions marks of life - existence, creation, fate ... while remembering to appreciate the tiny miracles that occur around us every single day. I felt myself getting lost in that dichotomy but after working on this theme for so long, i think the only way to strike that balance is to be grateful for all of it. The whole miraculous picture and the people in it.

So with this first track off the 5 song EP we went on to create, I want to thank all the amazing talent that was involved.

Thanks y'all

- Christy
